Myley Cyrus.. I can see faces grimace now at the thought of this name, the once squeaky clean singing sensation gone presumably insane like all the rest of those child stars before her, rest their souls.
But let me tell you something, I quite enjoy the various escapades of Miley. I find most of the points she makes (although done in a rather extreme manner) both invoking and positively correct. An advocate for animal rights, women's rights and one love, Miley has been sending shock waves across the western world in her recent shoot with the edgy Paper Magazine.
The shots (illustrating just how well she's keeping that bod' in shape) are very artistic, if naked bodies covered in mud and paint are your kinda thing. She has no boundaries, and these very expressive nudes are worlds away from the Paper Mag issue with the greasy backside smeared across it (Kim K, if you're wondering- yes that one who regularly wears dead animals and got famous for her sex life and apparent lack of common sense). The only comment I could muster to my best friend was 'well, thats some fitspiration I suppose!'.
What is more interesting than Miley's boobs and ability to do the crab is what she actually said in the interview. She elaborates on her reasons for being Vegan, her refreshing views on sexuality and she also speaks about the Happy Hippie Foundation, raising awareness and funds for homeless and LGBT youth.
She is interesting to say the least, and even those who find her approach a little overbearing have to appreciate that she has a fantastic platform on which she is making some really positive changes.
'For Cyrus, it's less about renouncing her past than imagining a wild new future, one in which people are free to buck expectations and live whatever kind of life feels truest to them. She remains refreshingly cognizant, meanwhile, of everything that's left for her to learn. Which sounds unremarkable, maybe, but is anomalous among people for whom all the traditional signifiers of success (fame, adulation, profit) have been realized. It gives her a specific charm -- an uncommon openness.
I believe her when she says she's the least judgmental person ever. "As long as you're not hurting anyone," she says, "your choices are your choices.'
So there you have it. Miley Cyrus, freaky attention seeker or freethinking being of the future? You decide.
