Wicked Women Wednesdays: My Feminist Playlist

Good afternoon ladies,

Bodysuit at Missguided

I am so spyched about this bodysuit from Missguided! The lyrics are classic, and got me thinking for Wicked Women Wednesday..

There are so many awesome songs out there and I am a massive music buff. But.. there are particular songs out there that on a tough day when the world is getting me down or maybe patriarchy has swung another fowl blow that I like to crank up and get lost in. I guess you could call them feminist songs! Woo!!

TLC - NO SCRUBS

A scrub is a guy that can't get no love from me

Hanging out the passenger side
Of his best friend's ride
Trying to holler at me

LILY ALLEN - HARD OUT HERE

Inequality promises that it's here to stay
Always trust the injustice 'cause it's not going away

LITTLE MIX - SALUTE

Ladies all across the world Listen up, we're looking for recruits
If you're with me, let me see your hands
Stand up and salute Get your killer heels, sneakers, pumps or
lace up your boots Representing all the women, salute

CHRISTINA AGUILERA - CAN'T HOLD US DOWN

So what am I not supposed to have an opinion
Should I be quiet just because I'm a woman
Call me a bitch cos I speak what's on my mind
Guess it's easier for you to swallow if I sat and smiled

SALT N PEPPER - NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS

If I wanna take a guy home with me tonight
It's none of your business
And she wanna be a freak and sell it on the weekend
It's none of your business
Now you shouldn't even get into who I'm givin' skins to
It's none of your business
So don't try to change my mind, I'll tell you one more time
It's none of your business

PUSSYCAT DOLLS - I DON'T NEED A MAN

I don't need a man to make it happen
I get off being free
I don't need a man to make me feel good
I get off doing my thing

P!NK - STUPID GIRLS

What happened to the dreams of a girl president
She's dancing in the video next to 50 Cent

DESTINY'S CHILD - INDEPENDENT WOMEN PT 1

Question: Tell me how you feel about this
Try to control me boy you get dismissed
Pay my own fun, oh and I pay my own bills
Always 50/50 in relationships

KERI HILSON - PRETTY GIRL ROCK

All eyes on me when I walk in,
No question that this girl's a 10
Don't hate me 'cause I'm beautiful

BEYONCE - FLAWLESS

But why do we teach girls to aspire to marriage
And we don't teach boys the same?
We raise girls to see each other as competitors

QUEEN LATIFAH - UNITY

Instinct leads me to another flow
Everytime I hear a brother call a girl a bitch or a ho
Trying to make a sister feel low
You know all of that gots to go

NO DOUBT - I'M JUST A GIRL

I'm just a girl, living in captivity
Your rule of thumb makes me worry some
I'm just a girl, what's my destiny?

LESLEY GORE - YOU DON'T OWN ME

I'm young and I love to be young,
I'm free and I love to be free,
To live my life the way I want,
To say and do whatever I please.

So, I hope these songs can get you through the rest of this rather cold but sunny day.

Seeing Red

These culottes are sexy and I don't care what none of y'all say. I felt so elegant in these bottoms from Zara, and again they're PLEATED! (I'm not doing it on purpose, I promise).

The length of them is also bang on trend for SS16, finishing at the ankle. Other brands doing this include Reiss, Cos and H&M. It's a really flattering length and looks great with heels and flats, especially brogues and loafers.

The shirt is also adorable; the little graphic pattern is really sweet and makes a nice twist on the classic white shirt. It actually has matching trousers too, which are equally cute.

Tassles are still massive for this season. Everyone has done them and they are so versatile. I love colour blocking like this, it's so playful!

Wicked Women Wednesdays: #31Days of Feminism

So, something caught my attention a couple of days ago, and I really feel it should have created more of an impact than it has done.

Throughout this month, March 2016, NNCLatino, NBC Asian and NBCBLK have partnered with the Ms. Foundation for Women to raise awareness for women of colour who are actively promoting equality.

It is a digital campaign that has seen these NBC networks discuss what it means to be a feminist to a collection of 31 brilliant creative women of colour who have, through their work, made a positive change in the world by helping bring awareness and highlight the inequalities women often face.

These women are writers, activists, entrepreneurs. game changers who are being celebrated by NBC for their hard work. They highlight not only the prejudices and hardships that women of colour may face, but also the rich tapestry that is their history; their stories that are so rarely heard.

This follows the events of the Baftas 2016 whereby for a second year in a row, it was highlighted that there is a significant shortage of people of colour in show-business.

It is a brilliant campaign that should be celebrated. As someone who aims to promote only the positive and the good in the world, I find it difficult to discuss why this is important, and why this should have more coverage and appreciation globally (little me blogging from London, UK). I think sometimes we, as modern humans, try so hard not to offend each other or speak out that we miss opportunities to make the world a better place.

This campaign really can open our eyes to the 40% of women who the US who on average earn less, have poorer health care and are still grossly underrepresented, which is shocking considering that by 2050 the USA will have no majority race. (Unless you're an idiot voting for Trump, seriously, get yourself checked).

Let me leave you with this video that gives great insight. I know, I live in the UK, but as a mixed race woman from London I think the situation in the US right now is rather scary for people of colour, let alone women.

I would love to know your opinions on this. Mine are still growing and changing everyday as I learn more about our world. Do you think NBC is doing the right thing? Are women of colour being underrepresented or are we just jumping on a bandwagon?

Kimono Over Here

Good morning guys. How's it hanging.. Enjoying the ever so slightly warmer weather?

Even more importantly, did you like my clever use of the word Kimono in my title? Super smart eh..? eh?

I went to Zara and found this absolutely brilliant two piece. The kimono made me feel like some sort of powerful goddess out of Greek mythology; it's so floaty and the material is heavy and luxurious. I mean come on, look how it moved in the wind!

The fact that it comes with trousers just made me super wet myself. I love a good two piece but don't often find ones that actually look nice on. I can safely say (partly thanks to the revival of the pajama trend) that this co-ord hits the spot.

The little cream ribbed top underneath is also Zara, from a few years back. Soo good. I love sheer materials but being at work 182772% of the time means that I don't get to really wear stuff like this!

I know not everyone will want to wear this together (why not? It's awesome..) so it's great how versatile this pattern is. The kimono will look so awesome over jeans and the trousers are perfect for a beach cover up. I am in love, now where the hell is the sun?

Lock Me Up

Pleats are everywhere aren't they? It would be annoying if they didn't look so damn good. This particular mesh pleated number is from Zara. It's actually a dress, but as I am a massive fan of both sheer clothing and layering, I opted to tuck the under layer in and let the rest lay over patterned trousers.

The trousers are old season Asos, and the shoes old season Missguided. I can't believe how well they match up!

I love seeing different textures and patterns layered and I really enjoy the fact that although they're floral, they are quite muted.

Thanks to Doug of Detune Photography for the amazing photos!

The Spring Blues

I'm so excited, today I went out for the first time in what felt like a gazillion years, and I didn't need a coat!

I'm so excited for warmer weather, and this outfit is perfect for spring!

I absolutely love this skirt. The floral design is so subtle and dainty, and is a fun and sleek way to wear florals this season. H&M have some wicked skirts for ss16 (did you see my last post with the metallic pleated skirt?) and this one is no exception.

I paired this with a check monochrome shirt from Forever21. Shirts are having a big come back this season, they're absolutely everywhere,This check pattern is a fun, alternative way to wear a shirt, and a great way to change up a plain outfit without putting in too much effort.

My lovely shoes were a Primark find at £6 in the sale! The clutch is also a sale bargain from Warehouse.

I absolutely love colour clashing, especially blue and orange. If done right, they really set each other off, complimenting each other and making for a fun outfit.

Thank you so much again for Doug, one of the best and easiest photographers I've worked with. Loving these photos! Go check him out on Instagram or at his website

Pleats To Meet You

Absolutely loved working with the talented Doug at detunphotography!

This season is all about the details, embellishing on the basic.

I am absolutely loving this beautiful silver pleated skirt from H&M, it's so elegant and easy to wear both day and night.

I am a lover of comfort, so really enjoyed pairing it with a pair of slip on trainers from new look and a luxe sweatshirt, also from H&M

Choice of material is really crucial when it comes to sports luxe, and this thin jumper is a perfect example of how sportswear can be doubled as day wear to create a comfortable but stylish outfit. I particularly love the slight sheen to the black jumper, giving it a slate finish in the light.

The skirt is a dream. It's floaty but weighty, and the length is really bold, bringing a whole new meaning to midi. The metallic finish is really on trend and funky. I love it! Pleats are also massive for SS 2016.

I could have paired this outfit with a pair of heels but as you probably noticed flats ruled fashion week this year. It's all about ready to wear, pairing the elegant  and dainty with casual and comfortable.

To check out more of Doug's work (he's been published in Pulp magazine and Zoo UK for god's sake!) check out his website, or his instagram, 'daysinminutes'!

Happy International Womens Day 2016!

Good Morning!

Just a little post to say HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY!!!

It;s a glorious day to be a woman as we spend the rest of the day celebrating women's achievements and sing out for gender equality.

Since 1911 women have celebrated every success on March 8th, from the social to the economical, and this year Google has gone and done something totally awesome by creating a Google Doodle on the home page featuring girls and women across the world complete the sentence 'One day I will',.

The ladies (from 13 different countries) elaborate on their dreams and ambitions. Google aims to raise awareness for those who otherwise may not be heard.

Watching the video made me think, we have come so far these past few years, yet according to new research, we are still nearly 100 years from equality. This means there's lots to be done.

It also got me thinking, how would I finish that sentence? I don't know.. there's so much I would love to do. I think the most important thing for me is that One  day I will make a change. It doesn't have to be big change. I make mistakes, I learn from them, I am meandering through life. I just hope at the end of it I have been able to have some sort of positive impact on this lovely planet.

So, what ever you may be doing today, whether it be running round like a mad woman, sitting at home chilling, or working at your desk job, remember to spread a little love to all the women around you! We should all be supporting each other because we are all amazing!

Share your support! Tweet and Insta #OneDayIWill !!

Batty's Bath: My New Favourite Skin Care Brand!

Hey guys,

I'm sure by now you all know that I love fashion, makeup and supporting the strength and growth of other women. What you probably don't know is that I am a veggie going on vegan, petition signing nature lover. So, when I come across a product that is awesome AND awesome for you, I find it very difficult to resist!

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to be contacted by Batty's Bath, a botanical skin care brand from Ontario, Canada. They have a wicked selection of natural, remedies and potions for your skin, and luckily I offered to send me two samples! I wanted absolutely everything of course, so we began with their Charcoal and Lemon Detox Mask and the all natural Whipped Cream Foundation.

So why Batty's Bath Charcoal Detox Mask?

There are plenty of active Charcoal Masks out there, but what makes this one so special is the additional ingredients that work together to sooth and brighten up your skin.

Charcoal is well known for it's absorption properties, drawing out toxins. Put this miracle mask all over your face and let it soak deep into your pores and draw out all the built up dirt and grime clogging up your poor pores.

Whilst Charcoal is being a babe and cleaning up your skin, the Aloe Leaf juice is busy soothing. Aloe is most commonly used for burns and chronic skin conditions such as eczema. The Egyptians called it the plant of immortality, and for good reason. Aloe possesses moisturising and healing properties that calm and repair the skin. The two active hormones (Auxin and Gibberellins) heal broken skin and reduce inflammation. Gibberellins is also acts as a growth hormone, stimulating the renewal of skin cells and reducing scarring. Did I mention that Aloe includes 75 different nutrients too? Win Win!

Batty is spoiling us now, adding some Lemon Oil to the mix. It's an omnipotent antioxidant so it kills all bacteria whilst gently toning your skin, making for a more even complexion.

USING THE MASK:

So, as the directions suggested, I slathered this stuff generously over my face. It has a smooth, gel like texture that spreads on the skin with ease. It smells fresh due to the Aloe, and even leaves the fingers you used to apply it feeling buttery smooth!

Yeah, charcoal is black, but because the face mask has other awesome ingredients, this mask is actually semi transparent. It dries quite nicely, giving a taut feeling after a while. Directions say to leave this miracle mask on for up to an hour, so of course I just spend my time trying to organise photoshoots for the blog (it's a nightmare) and watching How I Met Your Mother.

Once my time is up, I make sure I have an exfoliator at hand so I can gently scrub away all those impurities! Better to use a natural one such as Batty's Bath Mild Jojoba Facial Scrub, but otherwise I make sure it's something eco friendly without those awful plastic beads in!

Now I apply just a little bit of moisuriser to my face and I am ready to rumble! My skin is feeling smooth, soft, hydrated and super clean! I love using this mask and now include it in my weekly skin care routine. It's so easy to use and has made such a big difference to my complexion. As I have sensitive combination skin, it has made all the difference using a product with natural ingredients.

Now For the Foundation!

When adorning your skin with such luxurious products, one should not really whack on makeup straight after BUT.. when you're slapping on Batty's very own foundation, I think we can make an exception.

What's so awesome about Batty's Whipped Foundation is the ingredients she spoils us with. Most foundations have chemicals that dry out the skin whilst clogging up your pores, leaving it dry and prone to break outs.

This all natural product contains skin loving ingredients such as Jojoba oil, Vitamin E oil and Shea Butter. There are seven shades in total and each one is formulated from 100% natural, vegan and Gluten free ingredients. What I love is that Batty has added Zinc and Titanium Dioxide, both acting as a natural layer of protection from the suns rays.

Using it daily for a fortnight I have really noticed a difference in my skin. It's clearer, smoother, and less prone to flaking and break outs. I apply it with clean hands and/or a clean makeup sponge. The texture is thick and creamy, though when applied it is lightweight and easy to build up for both light and heavier coverage. I also don't need to reapply throughout the day, which is great because I have an extremely busy work schedule.

What's best is that I could use it to cover up my problem areas, and the foundation got to work repairing my skin whilst making me look damn fine!

Overall Experience

I have really enjoyed using Batty's Bath products, and I reckon since Payday has just come around, I may just have to spoil myself to a few extra bits. It's really great using beauty products that are good for you! The products are easy to use, beautifully packaged and wonderfully presented.  What's even better is that Batty now allows you to purchase samples for just a pinch of the price, so if you're making the switch from conventional makeup to botanical, you can test the products for yourself first!

Batty's Bath currently offers 10% off to all new customers, so get in there quick, you seriously won't be disappointed.

Thank you!

Wicked Women Wednesdays: Leonardo DiCaprio

Before we start, yes I know Leo is not a woman, but I think he deserves to mentioned because.. well, he is Leo and he wins.

Leo is a brilliant performer, but he is also an awesome advocate for eco awareness and tackling global warming. He takes any opportunity to discuss what we can all do to make the world a better place, and he takes it very seriously. So, with this in mind, I wanted to dedicate WWW to Leo so that everyone could see just how darn awesome this God on Earth is.

source

Leo Started His Own Foundation

Pretty simple and pretty amazing, Leo started his own foundation, The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, in 1998 that raises awareness and funds for the world and all its creatures. If that's not adorable enough already then I don't know what is! He even holds his own Galas where he auctions of things like walk on roles on his next film. Before you get your purse out, this particular treat went for $2.4 million.

Leo Got Named a UN Peace Messenger

In 2014, Leo's tireless efforts and contributions to the battle against global warming were recognised, and the United Nations named him a UN Peace Messenger, where he helps to promote global action on climate change.
Source

Leo Loves Tigers

Leonardo is a partner in the World Wildlife Fund, and in 2013 the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation donated $3 million to help Nepal in their efforts to double wild tiger numbers by 2022.

Leo Loves the Sea Too

Not only is Leo a tiger lover, but he wants to clean our oceans too. That's why, in 2014. he donated a whopping $7 million to protect them. On top of this, he donated an additional $3 million towards marine life preservation. He's pretty cool like that.

In Fact, Leo Loves All Life

In 2013, Leonardo DiCaprio partnered up with WWF in a bid to end the trading of Ivory, urging the public to sign a petition pressuring the Officials of Thailand to crack down on the trade. In addition, Leo also launched a new animal rights campaign with the World Wide Fund for Nature called 'Hands off my Parts', aiming to raise awareness for the animals being slaughtered each year for their fur, skin and bones.

Leo Turned Gwyneth Paltrow into a Vegetarian

In 2013 Gywneth told the Guardian that he detested the dirty farming industry. Gwyneth already didn't eat red meat, and admitted this planted a seed for her diet further evolving.

Leo has never admitting being a veggie, but it has long been a theory, regardless of his liver eating scene in the Revenant. He has veggie meals at public events, and he also produced the eye opening documentary Cowspiracy, exclusive to Netflix.

Leo Dedicates His Oscar

Just to put the cherry on top, Leo used his long awaited Oscar speech (watched on TV by an estimated 34 million people) to highlight the threat of Global Awareness. It smashed Twitters previous Oscar telecast record, with this moment being tweeted 440,000 a minute, crushing 2014's record of 225,000 with Ellen Degeneres.

It was a beautiful moment, with Leonardo ending 'Do not take this world for granted, I do not take tonight for granted, thank you'.

source

So, thank you Leo... thank you to his parents actually, for creating such a beautiful human, inside and out!

Peace out! D x
